Test Details: The methylation status of the O6-methylguanine-DNA methyltransferase (MGMT) gene is a strong predictor for the efficacy of temozolomide chemotherapy and survival periods. Genomic DNA is isolated from paraffin section of glioblastoma tissue and subjected to bisulfite treatment. The modified DNA is subjected to real time methylation specific polymerase chain reaction (MSP) to detect methylation or absence of methylation in promoter region of MGMT gene, using sequence specific primers/probes for amplification of independent hypermethylated and non-methylated MGMT.
