Test Details: The potassium 24 hour urine test measures the amount of potassium in a sample of urine collected over 24 hours. This test aids in evaluation of conditions associated with electrolyte imbalance, acid-base imbalance and identify states of hypokalemia/ hyperkalemia. Urinary potassium may be elevated with dietary (food and/or medicinal) increase, hyperaldosteronism, renal tubular acidosis and urinary potassium is decreased in certain renal diseases and disorders associated with decreased urine flow.
